Let's talk about a very serious subject: LUNCH. I am a girl who needs to eat. If I do not keep myself full throughout the day, well let's just say I use the word "hangry" a lot. I can't rely on delivery or waiting in a line when I am hungry, either, so I always pack a lunch. I'm sure I can't be the only one who enjoys a timely, healthy (ish) meal.
What and when I eat is almost as important as how I'm toting it along with me. I'll admit when I was a freshman in high school I was a brown bagger. I thought it would be convenient to throw the bag out after I ate my lunch. However, I found myself not eating all the snacks I brought and saving them for later in the afternoon. The convenience of being hands-free when lunch was over was not happening. Not to mention the added disadvantages of ripped bags, little space, and lack of insulation.
In my junior year, I finally smartened up. I bought an actual lunch box. When you think "lunch box", do you think a little kid on their first day of kindergarten? There are so many options out there to prove you wrong! My first "adult" lunch box was by BUILT NY.
BUILT NY has a collection of lunch boxes known for their insulating, neoprene fabric. Neoprene is a stretchy material making it easy for those who stuff their lunch box full and don't want everything falling out (Hello, me). How often do you make a mess with your lunch? BUILT lunch boxes are reusable and machine washable!
They also have a secure, hefty zipper and can be stored flat in your kitchen cabinet. These boxes are reasonably priced and come in a variety of prints and colors, making it easy to find the right one for your 'taste' (get it?) They even have carriers for your wine and beer! What's not to love? BUILT NY is Food and Lead Safety tested, PVC, BPA, latex and phthalate-free!
Another route I love for lunch is a carry-all like PlanetBox. My favorite is their stainless steel Bento Box lunch box. They have 3 different sizes and have a side-by-side comparison to help customers pick out the best one for them!
The first box is called the Rover. It is medium sized with five compartments for a sandwich and snacks. PlanetBox designed this for "variety, grazing, and small portions." It holds about five cups of food and includes two smaller circular containers.
Number two is the Shuttle. It is the smallest box, holding 3.5 cups of food for kids and adults. These two compartments are perfect for a small meal, such as a sandwich and snack. The Shuttle comes with one small circular container.
The third PlanetBox is the Launch. This offers only three compartments, but the most width for larger portions. This is designed for older kids and adults enjoying a more "traditional" three course meal. The Launch also comes with additional containers.
PlanetBox carries tons of eco-friendly lunch boxes and accessories. This company spent years in product development to create the perfect box that works. Each compartment is for a different food group and since they are a specific size, PlanetBox has taken care of portion control for you. These are definite investment pieces for your kitchen! These are dish-washer safe and free of BPA, phthalates, and lead.
Another option for a pollution free lunch is reusable snack bags! Ziploc is great, but not very nice to the environment. The "Snack Happens" reusable snack bags by Itzy Ritzy are the perfect alternative. These little pouches are not only reusable, but machine washable and 100% cotton.
The zipper closure makes these easy to bring anywhere. The bags come in a variety of sizes and have a water-proof interior, so rest assured you can pack whatever craving you're having.
There are several prints to choose from and more are added throughout the year! I love this fox print! My college mascot was the Red Fox, so I am a little biased! "Snack Happens" bags are also FDA approved, BPA, PVC, and lead free.
