Summer is a time when most people take life a little slower. They choose to spend more time outside enjoying the sun than worrying about work and deadlines. With summer allowing for more down time in our schedules, some might enjoy dedicating that time to a worthy cause. What better way to unwind this summer than with animals? There are so many opportunities to get involved and make a difference for animals in the summer months.
1. Dog Walking
Dog walking is a great excuse to make your own schedule and get up and moving this summer. Not to mention you'll be helping pets do the same! Many online services make it easy to become a dog walker in your area. Rover.com and Care.com are just a few examples of services that allow the public to search their zip code and find reputable dog walkers or sitters in their neighborhoods. Simply enter your information, create a bio, and share your new endeavor with friends! Pet owners can reach out to you or you can "apply" for the job through the site. Definitely meet with the owners and pets first to make sure you are the right fit for each other!
2. Volunteer at a Shelter
Who can resist snuggling with shelter pets all day? A lot of shelters need an extra hand, especially when it comes to feeding and play time. Shelters offer an array of volunteer opportunities from adoption counselor to kitten syringe feeding. Any help is appreciated and the animals will thank you! Contact your local shelter and see how you can help out!
3. Help Animals Abroad
Are you seeking adventure this summer? Try volunteering for an animal sanctuary abroad! Rehabilitate elephants in Thailand or travel to Africa to help the tigers. You could find yourself as an on-site volunteer working directly with the animals or as a research volunteer collecting data to aid in wildlife preservation. It does not matter what your interests are, there is a place for you. The possibilities are endless!
So how will you help this summer?
